No matter your stage in life, keeping fit is essential to doing the things you love with ease, power and grace. In this class, you’ll cultivate body awareness and learn healthy functional movement strategies grounded in science such as hip hinging, a spine sparing technique.
If you have low bone density, weight-bearing exercises are included and safe mat variations will be offered. Incorporating the science of aging, we challenge our nervous system through fun movement brain games to develop new neural pathways that improve balance, fall response time and focus. We work on core, lower and upper body strength and we practice how to catch ourselves safely if we trip, to help prevent injury.
Expect improved posture, injury prevention, coordination, core strength, flexibility and balance with crossover benefits to your daily sports and activities. This class is appropriate for beginner to advanced intermediate active ager. To participate, you must be able to get up and down from a mat safely and independently. No prior Pilates experience necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun.

A few years ago I was a woman in my late 60’s who had painful joint issues:knee, hip , back. I tried different modalities that were highly recommended. However, I did not experience relief. Finally I found a chiropractor whose treatment was tailor-made for my issues. To keep me pain-free and in a continued balanced, active life-style the doctor recommended Teresa’s classes. It didn’t take long, working with Teresa, for the beneficial effects on my body to be felt. I take her classes twice a week and sign up immediately for each new session…her classes sell out quickly. She is a true professional…knowledgeable and disciplined. She brings not only her valuable expertise and wisdom, but her humor and great sense of fun too!

All of us are aging, no matter what age we are now. As the joke goes, getting older is better than the alternative. The very best gift you can give yourself (and by extension, your family and loved ones) is to take care of yourself. When I started taking Aging Strong/Bone Smart Pilates from Teresa in February 2016 my goal was to be able to touch my toes on my 70th birthday. Through her guided mat classes, my flexibility improved enough that I could put my palms flat on the floor with straight knees. Try it yourself. And then sign up for one of her classes or the private sessions.. I feel better at 73 than I did in my 40’s!

I started pilates with Teresa in January 2019. I won’t stop. My tummy is now flat and my abs are hard. I asked my daughter to feel my abs and she said it was my rib bone! The classes help a lot with my neck and shoulder pain as well. Before class it hurts and after class it feels much better. Teresa is very knowledgeable about the body with her physical therapy and professional dance background and is very good at adjusting her exercises for any physical restrictions her students may have so injuries do not occur. In fact, her modified Pilates exercises improve poor physical conditions. I also love the meditations at the end of class – very inspiring and relaxing music! I also appreciate Teresa’s sense of humor and fun. Very enjoyable experience!
